Filled with iconic destinations like the Whitsundays and bucket-list activities like snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to make friends with other travellers doing similar trips but with different itineraries along the way.
This pre-planned package is designed for independent social travellers who crave excitement without the stress of planning. Just pack your bags and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. This package is fully customisable – this is not one of our semi-guided tours, but a pre-planned itinerary hitting our favourite highlights and destinations along the coast, designed for you to travel solo, as a couple, or small group. Kick off your adventure in wonderful Sydney! Explore iconic sights like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge or relax at Bondi Beach. By evening, board the overnight bus and gear up for a journey to the laid-back coastal haven of Byron Bay.

Day 2: Arrive in Byron Bay
Arrive early and check into your centrally located accommodation for the next three nights. Dive into Aussie culture with a half-day surf lesson (additional costs) on Byron's famous waves, where you’ll learn the art of catching waves with professional instructors.

Day 3: Byron Bay
Today is yours to discover the magic of Byron Bay. Visit the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse for stunning views, stroll through local markets, or relax on the pristine beaches. Want something unique? Check out The Farm Byron Bay for local eats and laid-back vibes.

Day 4: Dolphin Kayaking

Day 5: Travel to Brisbane

Day 6: Travel to Noosa
Start your day with a scenic drive to the Sunshine Coast’s beautiful beachside town of Noosa. After checking into your hostel, take some time to explore the area’s famous surf spots, stunning national parks, or the chilled-out vibe of Hastings Street.

Day 7: K’gari Tag Along Tour
Kick off your guided K’gari Tag Along tour hopping into a 4WD to explore the world’s largest sand island. Drive along 75 Mile Beach, visit Lake Wabby, and stroll through Wanggoolba Creek’s rainforest. Enjoy a stunning sunset, a campfire dinner, and stargazing on the beach.

Day 8: Explore K'gari

Day 13: Whitsundays Sailing

Day 18: Travel to Cairns

Day 19: Great Barrier Reef Snorkel

Travel Buddies offers a unique blend of guided and independent travel. We’ll take care of your accommodations, transport options, and the activities included in your package, but it’s up to you to book your buses and arrive on time at designated pick-up points or starting locations. Missed buses or activities aren’t refundable, and you’ll need to arrange and cover any additional travel or expenses. You’ll also have the flexibility to plan your own downtime and can add extra tours along the way (subject to availability).
A pre-planned solo travel package is a curated travel experience tailored for independent travellers who want the freedom of solo exploration without the hassle of planning every detail. It includes a well-structured itinerary featuring must-see destinations, exciting activities, and essentials like accommodation and transport, all pre-arranged for convenience.
You can either book the above package as is, or you can make amendments wherever you’d like. If you want to do the tour in reverse, add on a few days, include extra activities, or travel by campervan, you can! Just book now or make an enquiry and we’ll create the perfect package for you.

Anyone 18+ can join and enjoy our tours, however the average age range is between 18 and 35. This is mainly because our chosen accommodations and activities are often catered towards social backpackers between these ages.
The package does not cover travel insurance (compulsory from April 1, 2024), personal expenses, meals not listed in the itinerary, equipment hire deposits, public transport, or shuttle buses provided by activity operators.
No, this is a pre-planned travel package designed for independent travellers. You’ll follow an itinerary with pre-arranged accommodation, transport, and activities but travel at your own pace. A dedicated support team is available 7 days a week for any assistance.
The itinerary offers a balance of planned group activities and free time, allowing you to explore each destination on your own. While certain activities and transport are scheduled, you’ll have the flexibility to choose your own adventures during free days or in your downtime.

Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for any tours booked with Travel Buddies as of April 1, 2024. At minimum, your travel insurance policy should include: medical costs, emergency evacuation, and cancellation protection. This includes adventure activities and any unexpected situations, such as illness, injury, unpredictable weather, or cancellations.
World Nomads travel insurance provides coverage for over 150 activities. You can get a quote, file a claim, or purchase or extend your policy while traveling.
If an activity is cancelled because of weather or unforeseen circumstances, we’ll try to reschedule it or find an alternative. If neither is possible, you’ll receive a refund for the cost of the activity.
Most essentials are covered in this East Coast package, but we recommend budgeting about $50 – $100 AUD per day for additional meals, drinks, optional activities, and souvenirs.

Absolutely! This package is designed for social independent travellers. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet like-minded adventurers and enjoy group activities while still having the freedom to explore on your own.
No, you will need to pre-book your buses yourself based on your itinerary, however we will send you our recommended schedule. All information regarding recommended times and bus stop locations will be sent to you along with your itinerary and ticket details.
You’ll have opportunities to see wild dolphins, turtles, manta rays, whales (seasonal) and other marine life during your Byron Bay kayaking tour, Great Barrier Reef snorkel, and Whitsundays sailing trip. On land, you might encounter kangaroos, koalas, dingoes, reptiles, and native birds, especially in places like Magnetic Island and K’gari.
Pack casual clothing suitable for warm weather, swimwear, sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and comfortable walking shoes. For overnight camping tours, pack light layers and a small daypack. If you’re travelling in the winter, be sure to pack a jumper as it can get a bit chilly at night, especially south of Airlie Beach.
Yes, if you hold a full manual driving licence. If not, you can still join as a passenger and enjoy the guided tour whilst being in charge of the tunes and car games instead!

Cancellation & Refund Policy:
If you decide to cancel your activities or accommodation for any reason, a 50% Cancellation Fee will be applied. (“Cancellation Fee”).
In addition to Travel Buddies Cancellation Fee, you may also be liable for any cancellation fees charged by the service provider as per their own terms and conditions.
It is therefore possible your cancellation fees could be up to 100% of the cost of the booking (for example cancellations made within 24hrs of travel).
The Cancellation Fee will apply in all cases where a tour is able to run.
Some examples include, but not limited to;
Change of mind.
You have decided not to proceed with your booked travel.
A family member is unwell and you need to fly home / end your travel.
If you are unable to reach a tour due to an “act of God” (for example a road is cut off due to flooding)
Your bus breaks down and you miss your planned departure.
You overslept and missed your tours start time or pick up time.
You misread the information of the tours pick up, start point, or start time.
You are unwell and are unable to make your tour.

For instances that may be deemed out of your control, we endorse the recommendation of a suitable travel and/or cancellation insurance provider. You may wish to contact your travel/cancellation insurance provider to make a claim for any tours deemed non-refundable due to agent (Travel Buddies) or supplier (service provider) cancellation fees.
If a tour or other travel service is cancelled by the Service Provider, we will first endeavour to rebook you free of charge. If this is not possible, we will refund you the amount you paid for the tour or other travel service less any supplier charges. This full refund is subject to a fully refundable amount being given to us from the supplier who is cancelling.
We highlight here that all suppliers have different cancellation policies applying to your travel and that it is important to familiarise yourself with these at time of purchase.
